Anglo-Dutch oil company Royal Dutch Shell yesterday reported record annual profits of nearly £14billion (R207 billion) last year, making it the most profitable firm in Britain's corporate history.

Anglo-Dutch oil company Royal Dutch Shell yesterday reported record annual profits of nearly £14billion (R207 billion) last year, making it the most profitable firm in Britain's corporate history.

Shell, which is listed in Britain and The Netherlands, reported pre-tax profits of £13,9 billion for last year, an increase of 9percent over the previous year.

Jeroen van der Veer, Shell's chief executive, said Shell had made good progress last year, launching "new projects upstream and downstream, and achieving exploration successes". - Sapa
