SuperSport United landed one the biggest catches in the Premiership when they signed Anthony Laffor from Jomo Cosmos yesterday.

The speedy winger signed a pre-contract, until the expiry of his contract at the end of June.

United's director of football Stanley Matthews said though Laffor will not be in the team that takes part in the Gauteng Challenge on Saturday, the talented striker will give the Pretoria side a major boost in future.

"He has signed a four-year deal with us and we're excited because he showed some confidence in us. He had other options but we're happy to scoop one of the Cosmos stars," said Matthews.

He added that they were ready to play Moroka Swallows in the first match of the Challenge at Super Stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday at 2pm. The second match will feature Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns at 4pm.

United's spokesman David "Mazolman" Skhosana joked that they could not play a final for fear of a power failure in the township.

Swallows coach Ian Gorowa, whose assistant Innocent Mayoyo left for Dynamos, said the games would help them to prepare for the second and final round of the Absa Premiership.

Chiefs' team manager Bobby "Bobsteak" Motaung said: "We've introduced a number of youngsters who will be showcasing their talent on the day."

Players such as Mandla Masango, Sihle Mbambo, Sandile Zuke, Michael Nkambule and Wayne Matle are likely to set Super Stadium alight on the day.

Tickets for the tournaments are on sale at Computicket outlets.
