Gauteng's Smart Young Mindz Challenge participants are expected to help solve South Africa's 2010 Soccer World Cup-related marketing, tourism and communications posers by:

l Developing a slang dictionary that incorporates at least 100 words and sayings - with clear meanings as well as examples of the context in which the words and sayings are used - which must be purely South African (but can incorporate any of the indigenous languages) - with the meanings in English. They should give the dictionary a name that will stick in the minds of people.

lHighlighting Gauteng's reputation as one of the most politically and culturally unique countries in the world.

Regarding the environmental affairs phase of the challenge, the Smart Young Mindz contestants will be required to:

lInnovate alternative power sources that would help circumvent instances like the current power outages nightmare, as well as providing relief for people who cannot afford electricity, gas, batteries and solar energy.

They would be expected to develop an idea that will fit this gap, not using any of the above-mentioned power sources, and generate three possible ideas with advantages and disadvantages, by designing the mechanism with dimensions and enhancements, and making a model of the mechanism.

l Provide a water recycling solution to challenges such as the prevalence of E.coli and germs, causing diseases like cholera and other water-borne diseases - which are caused by unclean drinking water.
