A Limpopo pastor and a female police constable who was married to a deceased gangster in Polokwane made a brief appearance in the Seshego magistrate's court yesterday.
Pastor of St John's Church in Seshego, Mmetlwa Joel Mathobela, 44, was arrested at his house in Seshego near Polokwane on Monday evening.
Mathobela, an interpreter at the Seshego magistrate's court, is accused of selling a docket relating to the case of a member of another well-known gang in Seshego called Ezinyoka.
Mathobela allegedly connived with the murder accused to make the docket disappear. He was allegedly paid between R3000 and R6000 for this act.
The file was realised missing recently when the court officials wanted to use it in court.
"Investigations were launched internally and Mathobela was successfully linked to the missing file," police said yesterday.
l Meanwhile, a police constable attached to the beleaguered Seshego police station, Sarinah Mohale, 34, was also arrested at her home on Monday night.
Mohale's arrest is a sequel to an incident that took place on September 2 in Chebeng village in Moletji near Seshego.
Mohale's husband, Joseph, who was a well-known leader of a gang in the area, had an argument with Jappie Ngwaila, the leader of another gang in Chebeng village.
Joseph went looking for Ngwaila in the village, where he found Ngwaila's mother. He then shot and killed her in cold blood.
When Ngwaila came back in the afternoon he found his mother lying in a pool of blood.
"He launched a massive manhunt for Joseph, resulting in his [Joseph's] death in a shoot-out at Seshego Plaza that resembled a scene from a movie."
"The firearm used during the first killing belonged to Mohale," said Seshego police spokesman, Sergeant Mothemane Malefo in court yesterday.
Mohale appeared before the Seshego magistrate's court yesterday to face charges of defeating the ends of justice and murder.
Both Mohale and Mathobela were given bail of R2000 each.
Their cases will be heard again on February 28.
