Marketing and media workshop

Leading global soccer administrators and Free State politicians are expected to attend the Mangaung Local Municipality workshop to deal with marketing and communications aspects of the 2010 World Cup in Bloemfontein tomorrow.

Leading global soccer administrators and Free State politicians are expected to attend the Mangaung Local Municipality workshop to deal with marketing and communications aspects of the 2010 World Cup in Bloemfontein tomorrow.

Amie Molelekwa, the municipality's 2010 World Cup media liaison officer, said the workshop would be attended by the Local Organising Committee's media and communications staff, local and international partners of the world soccer governing body.

The organisers announced yesterday that members of the public are not welcome to attend the workshop, which takes place every second month and is attended by representative of the government and host cities, as it will be a closed session.

Sydney Mufamadi, the minister of provincial affairs and local government, is the convenor of the host cities forum. Mufamadi is also a member of the 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee executive board of directors.

"The marketing and communications work stream is one of the many work streams that the LOC has set up to oversee the country's preparations on various aspects pertaining to our hosting the 2009 Confederations Cup as well as the 2010 Fifa World Cup," said Molelekwa.

There will also be a 2010 World Cup imbizo soon after the workshop. Molelekwa said the imbizo is a networking session aimed at informing the media and public at large of Mzansi's readiness for the Confederations Cup and World Cup.
