Bank launches running club

Nedbank yesterday launched the Nedbank Running Club that is made up of a national network of 11 clubs based in 10 major cities across the country.

Nedbank yesterday launched the Nedbank Running Club that is made up of a national network of 11 clubs based in 10 major cities across the country.

The clubs are strategically located in Boland, Gauteng (north and central), Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Western Cape and the Vaal Triangle.

The announcement is in line with Nedbank's strategy and its existing commitment to sport in South Africa and road running in particular.

Bruce Fordyce, winner of nine Comrades Marathons and three London to Brighton races, said the club is a massive stride in taking the sport to the people and will accommodate runners of varying abilities.

"As the sponsor of the Nedbank City Marathon and Matha Series, which have been held in all major cities around South Africa for the past two years, the formation of the club completes our investment in and support for the sport," said Greg Garden, divisional director, Nedbank group marketing.

It provides a wide platform and support structure for all South Africans, especially for the respective communities and the bank's employees to help improve their wellness, health and fitness, while unearthing and nurturing budding talent and providing facilities for training and development.

The emphasis will be on helping ordinary runners achieve their goals, with the primary focus on helping them enjoy their sport and guiding the talented ones to excel. - Sapa
