With Platinum Stars players back from camp in Potchefstroom, coach Miguel Gamondi, right, has no distractions in planning for the second round of the Absa Premiership.

The Argentinian joined the team last week, and with none of his players with Bafana Bafana at the Africa Cup of Nations, he - unlike some of his colleagues in the PSL - can give the second round of the league his undivided attention. His first task if he is to continue getting the best out of his team is to rejig how the strikers have been playing, Gamondi said.

"We signed Colombian striker Luis Renteria, and so far we have no interest in anybody else. We need to work with the other strikers and help them gain the confidence they need to work efficiently," Gamondi said.

Stars stepped up their game when Gamondi joined them, but they also have the worst defence record, with a minus four goal difference.

Gamondi did not rule out bringing in an exciting player, should a chance arise, but said he will in future look to the development structures of the team first.

"I am getting to know the guys at development and Kevin Johnson agrees that we might soon bring in some young players to work with us," he said.
