TAMALE - Bafana Bafana are going for the kill against Tunisia in their second Group D match at Tamale stadium on Sunday night to enhance their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages.
"Tunisia owe us big time; they beat us [2-0] in 2004 in the group stages," said captain Aaron Mokoena after their 1-1 draw against Angola in their opening match on Wednesday.
"We knew that the opening game was always going to be tough. It's a bit tense during the first games but we are happy with a point.
"The plan is to improve against Tunisia to ease the pressure in Wednesday's game against Senegal in Kumasi. We also need to start scoring as many goals as possible."
But Tunisian defender Jaidi Rahd warned Bafana Bafana to brace themselves for yet another defeat by his side.
"We have a young team that is hungry for success. We were just unlucky against Senegal but people are going to see a better Tunisia on Sunday," he said.
Tunisia and Senegal drew 2-2 in their match on Wednesday.
The current Bafana Bafana have smashed the embarrassing record of the Class of 2006, who returned from Egypt pointless, and without scoring a goal.
Bafana showed character in the game against Angola, especially in the first 25 minutes and in the second half. They will have to guard against the Tunisians, who have a tendency to fall in the box, especially striker Medji Traoui.
With reserve goalie Moeneeb Josephs seemingly suffering from stage fright against Angola, it will not come as no surprise to see Rowen Fernandez reclaiming the jersey.
Fernandez was rested against Angola to allow an injured finger to heal. Otherwise, coach Carlos Alberto Parreira is expected to start with the team that finished the game against Angola, including goal scorer Elrio van Heerden, Thembinkosi Fanteni and Lerato Chabangu.
Probable Bafana squad: Fernandez, Bryce Moon, Tsepo Masilela, Nasief Morris, Benson Mhlongo, Aaron Mokoena, Teko Modise, Van Heerden, Chabangu, Fanteni and Zuma.
Bafana Bafana and Tunisia start their game at 9.30pm.
