ANC president Jacob Zuma, above, arrived yesterday in Davos, Switzerland, to attend the five-day meeting of the powerful World Economic Forum (WEF).

Zuma has been invited in his capacity as ANC leader. Observers see the invitation as a boost for Zuma's political fortunes as he is expected to succeed President Thabo Mbeki in 2009.

ANC spokesman Tiyani Rikhotso confirmed that Zuma left yesterday to attend the meeting which will finish on Sunday. While Mbeki is highly engaged on the home front with his Cabinet Lekgotla and contemplating political changes that the ANC demand from his administration, Zuma will be rubbing shoulders with world leaders, economists, business people, bankers and top government officials.

This year's WEF gathering will allow more than 2500 political, business and other leaders to discuss global economic issues under the theme: "The Power of Collaborative Innovation".
