Fiery ANC Youth League chief Fikile Mbalula has warned kwaito king Arthur Mafokate to "stop using my name" - if he has to settle scores.

Mbalula was reacting to claims that Mafokate had told an Eastern Cape non-governmental organisation official that he was "friends with Mbalula and liked a fight".

NGO spokesman Bayanda Ngqangwani says Mafokate owes them R20000 they paid him as a deposit for a concert he failed to attend.

Ngqangwani said he received a threatening call from Mafokate after Sowetan last Friday published his claims against Mafokate.

"He told me that he loves a fight and said if I also love it, let's fight," said Ngqangwani. "He told me that uphethe i-power (he is powerful) and he is friends with Fikile Mbalula.

"He said I am nothing. I am very scared and I feel helpless. He even gave me Fikile's numbers and told me to call him and ask about him."

Mbalula confirmed he was friends with Mafokate but said: "I thought he was a decent guy. I will call him and urge him to pay these people.

"I will challenge him. It is rubbish that anyone uses my name to victimise others. I can never be associated with such things."

Mafokate refuted claims that he threatened Ngqangwani.

He said he does not even have Mbalula's number.

"I am shocked. You guys need to respect Fikile. He is a high profile person. You cannot drag his name down. If the guy wants to talk to me he must call me because he has my numbers. The media won't solve his problems," said a furious Mafokate.

It is not the first time that Mafokate is alleged to have not pitched up for a show in the Eastern Cape.

Anthony Petro, a promoter from Khangelani Entertainment, said the company organised Mafokate for two events in Mdantsane and King Williams Town on behalf of the Youth Commission.

"He told us to pay R20000 as a deposit. When Mafokate did not pitch up we immediately cancelled the cheque."
