Two men were killed and two others injured when two trucks collided in Johannesburg yesterday.

Two men were killed and two others injured when two trucks collided in Johannesburg yesterday.

Netcare 911 spokesman Mark Stokoe said the collision happened on the N1 freeway near Beyers Naude around 9am.

"A truck rear-ended another truck that was in front of it and pushed it off the road.

"The two people in the first truck were killed when they were thrown out of the vehicle, landing on the centre island," said Stokoe.

Paramedics at the scene said the truck had gone out of control and drove across the centre divide directly into the oncoming traffic.

"Motorists took evasive action as the truck continued for about 300 metres on the wrong side of the freeway before coming to a stop," Stokoe said.

The driver of the second truck and his passenger were treated and stabilised on scene before being taken to hospital.

He said a third truck crashed into the debris left behind by the collision.

"The truck hit into the debris left behind by the accident between the first two trucks and slightly clipped one of the trucks," Stokoe added.

"It came to a standstill in the centre of the north-bound side with only slight damage and no injuries." - Sapa
