The Gauteng Choristers make beautiful choral music and have developed into a force to be reckoned with in the country and in Europe.

During the Old Mutual/ Telkom National Choir Festival at the Durban International Convention Centre late last year, the choir had the audience eating out of its hands.

It came as no surprise to anyone when the Gauteng Choristers took second position, after African Chorus from KwaZulu-Natal, in the festival's champion of champions category.

The choir is conducted by Sindiswa Mhlongo from Katlehong on the Ekurhuleni, Gauteng,. It was was formed in 1998.

Their win in last year's festival included a platinum award. The Choristers have become an important feature in the festival since it was first formed.

They were national champions at the festival in 2001 in the standard category, second in 2000 and 2004, and third in 1999.

The Gauteng Choristers also impressed opera lovers when the they performed in Europe last year in Porgy and Bess.

Another of theChoiristers's major achievements in 2006, besides winning so many of the country's major music competitions, was their appearance at the Opera Extravaganza in Johannesburg.
