Five suspects, including two police officers, have been arrested after a successful operation by Limpopo police at the weekend.

A joint task team comprising members of the police's crime prevention and dog units from Lephalale arrested the five suspects in Soshanguve, Mabopane, Pretoria North, Mamelodi and Fontana on Friday.

The suspects were found in possession of police uniforms and bulletproof vests, which were confiscated.

The arrests follow a tip-off that the group was committing various crimes while posing as police officers.

Police spokesman Senior Superintendent Motlafela Mojapelo said the suspects had also robbed a man of his 7.65 pistol and his wife's bank card.

He said the two police officers were identified as a sergeant and an inspector from the Tshwane Metro police.

Both their service pistols had been confiscated.

"The operation followed information we received about a group that was terrorising members of the community in Lephalale.

"We followed their tracks and arrested them," said Mojapelo.

He said they also recovered a 4x4 double-cab vehicle during the arrest. It was allegedly taken from its owner at gunpoint in Lephalale, he said.

According to Mojapelo, a suspect was still at large and a search for him was continuing.

"All the suspects are at the Lephalale police holding cells pending further investigations," he said.
