In keeping with South Africa's nation building and its fight for a nonracial society and the inclusiveness of its people, the challenge focussed on people with physical disabilities.

The outcomes of the competition designs were expected to provide an opportunity for pupils to make the 2010 Soccer World Cup a once-in-a-lifetime experience for people with physical disabilities.

The competing teams were required to come up with a three-pronged solution to ensure that the physically challenged are provided with infrastructure and other elements that would make them feel part of the fan base.

The winning schools for the 2007 Smart Young Mindz Challenge were Kliptown Secondary School, Sunward High School and Raucal Secondary School.

This year the challenges - which will be workshopped with Gauteng Education Department learning area experts - are likely to include energy and water conservation and crime prevention.
