This year is arguably going to be the toughest for our democracy and the judiciary in particular. The Zuma court case will be a defining moment in our short democratic history. We may not agree with his indictment, but it is our responsibility to support the independence of the judiciary.

The law must take its course - and the courts should decide! The judiciary is one of the pillars of this democracy. I don't think any judge will be foolish enough to compromise their integrity for political expediency. Courts are swayed by facts - not by political opinions.

Zuma has the right to challenge any verdict emanating from the trial. It is a right enshrined in our Constitution. This case is very sensitive and quite emotional. It is therefore very important for political leaders to exercise restraint and maturity.

Let's not incite violence through reckless talk and playing to the gallery. The Zuma trial has the potential to destroy or strengthen the post- 1994 gains. South Africa cannot afford to be another African failure. Let's respect the principles of democracy - by agreeing to disagree.
