Mpumalanga people will only know today whether or not Mbombela municipality will be placed under curatorship.

The department of local government and housing was yesterday still waiting for the municipality's response regarding the issue.

MEC Candith Mashego- Dlamini last month communicated the intention to place the municipality under curatorship after her department identified that Mbombela was underperfoming in terms of providing service delivery.

Underspending on the municipal infrastructure grant is one of the department's concerns.

The municipality is also said to have overcommitted itself on the budget for 2010 World Cup preparations. The municipality appointed a contractor for about R920million whereas it only has a budget of R870million.

The council says these problems are the result of an exodus of all its senior managers during the past year.
