Angler still missing off Durban
A police search-and-rescue team is still scouting the sea off Durban's north beach for a missing angler.
The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said they received reports early yesterday morning that a fisherman had gone for a swim and then disappeared in the surf. NSRI spokesman Sean Serfontein said details of the man, believed to be a Durban resident, had not been released.
"NSRI Durban launched our rescue craft Megan II and following an extensive search, but no sign of the missing man was found. The search continues."
Late on Monday the NSRI in Port Edward, in southern KwaZulu-Natal, rescued a couple trapped in their vehicle after being washed into the river while attempting to drive across a small bridge.
The couple, from Johannesburg, were rescued off the roof of their vehicle. The victims were brought safely onto land where they were treated for hypothermia. They required no further assistance and declined to be taken to hospital.
