What my wife told me reminded me of one Steven Pienaar who plays for English Premiership club Everton.
You see Pienaar should be reminded that he is not bigger than Bafana Bafana and the country.
He should be told in no uncertain terms that he is not doing the country a favour by donning the Bafana Bafana jersey.
He is not special and should not be treated as such.
Pienaar was not keen to attend the Bafana Bafana camp as scheduled because of club commitments.
Journalists, who wanted to simply ask him questions about his late arrival for training, were left high and dry after Pienaar stormed out of a news conference in Durban last week.
And according to Safa media liaison officer Sifiso Cele, there was nothing wrong with what Pienaar did when he stormed out of the news conference.
Defending Pienaar's action, Cele, the former sports editor of one Sunday paper, said players were not obliged to attend media briefings.
I could not believe what Cele said.
I thought Cele by now knows the basics that players, as required by Fifa and CAF, should avail themselves for interviews.
If Pienaar was not keen to play for his country any more he should have said so and no one would have bothered to pursue him to change his decision.
Safa and Carlos Alberto Parreira, the Bafana coach, should be commended for acting like greased lightning by informing Fifa to preclude Pienaar from featuring for his English team after he was called up for his country's duty.
Pienaar acted arrogantly but he should be told that he is not special.
To Cele I say read the Fifa/Caf media officer's do's and dont's before opening your mouth.
