Sowetan Education Power Your Future (PYF) has been working with the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) on their youth initiative for most of 2007 and is due to launch a wonderful competition for 10 lucky readers next week. It is called the PYF Starter Pack.

All of last year, the supplement has been questioning readers about various societal problems and every month one lucky reader won a cellphone, which was donated by the HSRC.

The Learning Channel and the HSRC said that one of the biggest problems facing young South Africans is the progression from school to work. They believe that the PYF Starter Pack will help to bridge that gap.

Patti McDonald, the head of The Learning Channel, said this week: "The HSRC will be monitoring this pilot competition from a research perspective and with a commitment to championing the idea to get business companies, institutions and organisations to sponsor further starter packs or prizes." - Victor Mecoamere
