It started when the Scorpions opened investigations into the death of controversial mining magnate Brett Kebble, who was found shot dead in his luxury car in September 2005.

Shortly after the Scorpions took up the case, the name of Glenn Agliotti cropped up.

A web of relationships connecting national Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi, Agliotti and Clinton Nassif, who worked with Kebble on a series of "security" and other projects, emerged.

Agliotti was last year convicted of drug smuggling and in the plea-bargaining agreement, furnished the Scorpions with an affidavit and undertook to give evidence in other unspecified criminal cases.

And this week, the man who led criminal investigations against Selebi was arrested and released on bail. - Sowetan Reporter
