One of South Africa's best ultra marathon runners Paulina Phaho says she will be making a comeback this year.

Phaho, 35, of Harmony Athletics, has not made any impact in the local athletics scene for the last couple of years, and had a string of poor performances before her disappearance.

The poor run was evident when she bailed out of the 2006 and 2007 Comrades Marathon.

In last year's Comrades, Phaho pulled her thigh muscle, and retired before she could reach the 10km mark.

Phaho said she was confident of getting back to the form that helped her win the 2004 City to City marathon and made her the record holder of the Loskop Marathon.

"When I started to underperform regularly, I took a break at the insistence of my doctor, but now it is time I started to compete.

"It has been a while since I won anything, and my target is the Om Die Dam race. The last time I performed was when I came third in the 2005 City to City race, and I can't wait," Phaho said.
