Police have nabbed hundreds of offenders on the roads over the festive season. The offences ranged from drunken driving, unroadworthy vehicles, speeding and reckless driving.
In KwaZulu-Natal, 300 offenders were arrested, with 200 in the Western Cape. Gauteng topped with 650.
Mpumalanga police spokesman Superintendent Abbie Khoabane said he did not have the exact number of the province' arrests, but said that mostly alcohol-related arrests took place all over the province.
Officials in Limpopo and the North West did not have the statistics of the arrests either.

Authorities have vowed to leave no stone unturned as they continue with roadblocks on the busiest roads and deal with offenders.

Meanwhile, in Uniondale, Western Cape, a bakkie with three occupants and a sedan with six occupants collided on the R62. Three women and a man in the sedan died.
In the Eastern Cape two elderly women died after a car they were travelling in overturned in Wolwesfontein. One passenger and the driver were seriously injured and taken to hospital.
In Johannesburg two pedestrians were hit and flung into a river by a car on London Road off-ramp on the N3 on Friday after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Traffic officials advised drivers to be cautious especially during the slippery weather.
