Hunt for bogus cop rapists

Siyabonga Africa

Siyabonga Africa

Police are in pursuit of two men who allegedly posed as police officers and stole R120 and electronic appliances before raping a nine-year-old girl.

Police spokesman, Captain Lindiwe Mbatha, said the men, aged between 23 and 26, knocked on the door of the garden tenant's shack in Meadowlands. They shouted that they were police officers and knocked the door down.

Inspector Xoli Mbele said they initially wanted cash from the tenant before assaulting him for not having any and took his kettle, iron and television set. Still pretending to be police officers they knocked on the door of the main house where the child's mother opened up for them.

Mbele said the robbers demanded money from the family, who were only able to give them R120. They then raped the young girl.

By the time the escaped tenant arrived with police in tow, the suspects had fled with the money and the appliances.

The Meadowlands police appeal to anyone with information on the suspects, pictured right, to contact Detective Inspector Moloi on 011-526-0361 or 072-509-2116.
