Africa Cup of Nations holders beat the Brave Warriors in a warm-up match for the Ghana show

CAIRO - Egypt striker Amr Zaki scored twice to help the Pharoahs beat Namibia 3-0 in an Africa Cup of Nations warm-up match on Saturday.

But the Brave Warriors held out for 53 minutes before conceding the first goal to the reigning champions.

That was when Zaki pounced, scoring after a back-heel from Hosni Abd Rabou.

Veteran midfielder Ahmed Hassan won his 130th cap in the match, and celebrated with the second goal.

Zaki then wrapped up the win with a far-post header two minutes from time.

Egypt, the Nations Cup holders, play Mali in Abu Dhabi on Thursday in their next warm-up match for Ghana.

They will face Cameroon, Zambia and Sudan in Group C.

Namibia are also competing at the Nations Cup, and will feature in Group A, with matches against the hosts, Guinea and Morocco.

l The Nigerian Football Association has allowed English Premier League side Everton to delay the departure of two players for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni and defender Joseph Yobo will now join the Super Eagles' squad after Tuesday.

It means they will be available for Everton's League Cup semifinal first leg against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Yakubu scored the winning goal in his side's 2-1 defeat over West Ham United in the League Cup quarterfinal.

The Super Eagles won the Afcon in 1980 and 1994, and have been drawn in Group B with Ivory Coast, Mali and Benin. - BBC
