The Africa Cup of Nations trophy will arrive in Johannesburg on Wednesday morning as part of the campaign to create a global awareness of the biennial tournament.
Standard Bank, the giant South African banking institution, started six weeks ago with a roadshow to take the trophy to various countries on the continent.
A strong contingent from the Ghana Football Association, who are hosting the tournament from January 20 to February 10, land in South Africa on the same day.
Also part of the delegation will be Abedi Pele, Ghana soccer legend who is also an ambassador of the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
Pele is also an ambassador of Standard Bank, who are one of the major sponsors of the African soccer spectacle.
Sowetan has also learnt that members of the 2008 Ghana Africa Cup of Nations Local Organising Committee will also form part of the delegation.
They hope to meet the South African Football Association's top brass and 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee.
South African soccer bosses Molefi Oliphant, Irvin Khoza and Danny Jordaan are expected to meet the Ghanaians.
Oliphant is also the deputy president of the Confederation of African Football, who are the organisers of the tournament.
There will also be a welcome party at a leading Northcliff hotel on Wednesday night for the visiting Ghanaians.
On Friday, the trophy will be paraded in Johannesburg.
