Administrators must learn from mistakes

Our sports administrators seldom perform according to expectations and the sooner people like Butana Komphela, chairman of the parliamentary portfolio committee on sport, take an interest, the better.

Our sports administrators seldom perform according to expectations and the sooner people like Butana Komphela, chairman of the parliamentary portfolio committee on sport, take an interest, the better.

We previously lost coaches like Clive Barker and Shakes Mashaba in football for no apparent reason.

Jake White is the latest to quit as coach as he was accused by people like Minister of Sport and Recreation Makhenkesi Stofile of not helping develop rugby. This happened despite him having delivered on his mandate (of winning the Rugby World Cup).

The 2010 Soccer World Cup finals to be hosted here are around the corner.

I hope our administrators are fast learning from their earlier mistakes.

I also expect players to be selected on merit, not because they are close to Stofile or any influential administrator.
