No festive luxury for Spurs as they battle to avoid axe

Witbank Spurs are going to Nelspruit this weekend to wrap up their preparations for the National First Division Inland Stream second round.

While many teams in the league were on recess, Spurs did not enjoy the luxury as they were hard at work.

The Mpumalanga side, which is in the basement of the Inland Stream, only had three days off during the festive season.

Caretaker coach Harry Nkosi said they could not afford to have the luxury of Christmas while the team was fighting to move away from the dreaded axe.

"We decided not to take a long break because most players come back after a break rusty. We kept on training not to lose our focus and momentum as we are planning to bounce back in the second round much stronger.

"We are going to Nelspruit tomorrow (Friday) and we will play practice matches on Saturday and Sunday," said Nkosi.
