South African Under-17 international Speedy Mabaso hopes to join any Gauteng-based development side to fulfill his desire to graduate to the Under-20s.

The striker, who plays for Easthigh Academy of Nelspruit in the SAB Castle League, said being far from Gauteng gave him a slim chance to impress the national selectors.

"It is common knowledge that when you are playing outside Gauteng your chances of being recognised are slim. Having worked my way into the Under-17s, I would like to graduate to the Under-20s," he said.

Mabaso was part of the Majimbos team that took part in the Cosafa U-17 tournament that was held in Namibia last month.

He was named the top goalscorer after finishing the tournament with four goals.

Mabasa was discovered during the Coca-Cola provincial tournament playoffs in Durban in 2005 by then Under-17 coach, Serame Letsoaka, who is now in charge of the Under-20s.

He said Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United development strctures once showed interest in him but nothing happened.

Mabaso said the scarcity of professional players from Mpumalanga encourages him to double his efforts.
