If Jacob Zuma had been charged before the Polokwane ANC conference, there was still going to be suspicion that he was being denied the chance to be president of the ANC and therefore of the country.

The interference with the judiciary by President Thabo Mbeki also didn't help ease the suspicion. I don't think the decision to charge Zuma is a blow to efforts to unite the ANC. It shouldn't be the NPA's business whether any political party, including the ANC, is united or divided.

The NPA believes Zuma has a case to answer and that has nothing to do with stopping him becoming the country's president.
