Double tragedy struck on a family in the Vaal when two cousins allegedly committed suicide in two seprate and unrelated incidents over the the weekend.
On Saturday Papi Mokubung, 37, committed suicide at Muvhango in Bophelong by hanging himself. The man had earlier in the week tried to strangle his 61-year -old mother with an electric wire following a bitter argument over money.
Mokubung then, under the impression that his mother who was recovering at a local hospital had died, then went on to commit suicide.
On the same day when Mokubung took his life, his cousin from Evaton West Extension 4, Doctor Mofokeng also allegedly committed suicide.
His lifeless body was found hanging from amn electric wire.
It has not been established yet why Mofokeng had taken his life and it is said that his girlfriend was the last person to be seen in his company.
During the week Mokubung had asked for money from his mother, Roselinah Mokubung. His mother had however told him that she did not have the cash.
She told Sowetan her son got furious after her response and that led to a physical fight which before he choked her with electric wire.
The deceased grandfather Jack Modise,91, said the man's mother had to undergo an emergency operation and also that she was due for a further operation by the weekend."Roselinah has an operation on the firmer though in two days time she was suppose to undergo another operation,'" said the grandfather Jack Modise.
"I do not understand how this child could do this to his own mother. What is confusing and has broken my heart is that these children did not leave any note to say what was bothering them.
I also fail to understand how an argument between mother and son could have ended that way;" said heart-broken Modise
Roselinah said that she spent four days in hospital during which time her son did not even bother to pay her a visit, and believing that she had died he went on to take his own life.
Vaal Rand police spokes man Captain Veli Mcera confirmed the incidents adding that they had opened inquest dokects.
