Nyamazane Celtics beat Thabo All Stars 1-0 to clinch the Mbombela Mayoral Festive Tournament crown in a closely contested match at KaBokweni Stadium, near Nelspruit, on Monday.

Celtics smiled all the way to the bank after pocketing a whopping R10 000 first prize, kit and 22 gold medals.

They also pocketed the prize of R500 for being the most supported team.

As if that was not enough, their coach Pro Thwala walked to the podium to collect a deserved coach of the tournament award that was accompanied by a cheque of R500.

For consolation the runners-up, Stars, received R7 000, a playing kit and silver medals for their efforts.

Andrew Mokoena, tournament organiser, said: "The objective of the event is to prepare the people of Mpumalangaf or the 2010 World Cup."

Meanwhile, Benfica beat Tornado 6-5 on penalties in the Metropolitan Local Football Association version.

Flamingo Ladies safely defended the ladies version when they beat Francis.
