Village girl found raped, strangled

Limpopo police yesterday discovered the body of a 17-year-old girl who has been missing for three days.

She had allegedly been raped and strangled. The girl apparently went missing on Saturday afternoon. A police and community search for her did not yield any results.

The girl stayed with her parents and siblings in Mohlaletse village, near Apel, in the Sekhukhune area.

Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said the girl's body was found in the bushes near a river in the village.

According to preliminary investigations, the girl had allegedly been raped and strangled to death.

"We discovered the body of a girl who had been reported missing since Saturday.

"Unfortunately she was found dead on Monday," he said yesterday.

A 17-year-old boy from the same village has been arrested in connection with the crime and is expected to appear in the Sekhukhune magistrate's court today.

Ramatseba identified the victim as Kamogelo Kgabisa. He said police were still trying to discover a motive for the girl's murder.

l In an unrelated incident, police have launched an investigation into the murder of a 23-year-old man from Moime village, near Tzaneen.

The deceased was stabbed in the chest. Ramatseba said the deceased apparently had a quarrel with another man during a drinking binge yesterday morning.

The victim was stabbed to death. Ramatseba said the suspect is still at large. He appealed to the public to assist police with their investigations.

He identified the deceased as Happy Mbonzweni.
