The family of a Soweto woman who was badly injured in a hit-and-run accident three months ago is angry that the driver has not been arrested despite the police possessing his contact details.
Smangele Khuzwayo, 25, from Mzimhlophe, was on her way to write an exam at the African Gainako Poverty Alleviation Project Centre in Orlando on October 2 when a green Opel Kadett, apparently travelling at high speed, hit her.
It is believed that the driver failed to stop at a red robot at the Noordgesig-Orlando East intersection.
Her family traced her to Chris Hani-Baragwanath Hospital after a three-day search. She had suffered a broken leg and an arm.
Speaking to Sowetan yesterday, Zodwa Khuzwayo said her sister has not been the same since the incident.
"She has been vomiting and appears to be confused. She could not remember her name when she was discharged from Bara on November 23."
Khuzwayo said her family was not happy with the lack of progress in the case.
"The police told us that they have the driver's address but cannot find the place."
Police spokesman Captain Nomvula Mbhense said the address obtained from the traffic department could not be traced.
She said the case has been closed but would be re-opened once the driver's correct address has been established.
