As a former student of the University of Pretoria, it is upsetting to see pro-Afrikaans organisations such Solidarity approaching the Pan SA Language Bord (Panslab) to lodge a complaint against the university for "excluding" Afrikaans students from curriculums by offering courses in English.

As a former student of the University of Pretoria, it is upsetting to see pro-Afrikaans organisations such Solidarity approaching the Pan SA Language Bord (Panslab) to lodge a complaint against the university for "excluding" Afrikaans students from curriculums by offering courses in English.

During my student days there we had to omit certain modules because they were offered only in Afrikaans and those of us who were raised speaking "African" languages performed poorly in these modules.

The Vryheidsfront and its partners in crime were always promoting the interests of the minority Afrikaans students.

It's about time that these organisations acknowledge the fact and understand that the University of Pretoria belongs to all.

If Panslab upholds the interests of Afrikaans students it must alsoadvance the interests of the non-Afrikaners by providing lectures in isiZulu, Tshivenda and other indigenous languages.

We are sick and tired of pro-Afrikaans institutions that disguise their right-wing tendencies for rights and cultural preservation.

I can speak fluent Afrikaans but will never allow someone to bully me into speaking it. Language is a question of choice.
