Congratulations to Simphiwe Dana for reaching yet another milestone in her fledgling career.

Congratulations to Simphiwe Dana for reaching yet another milestone in her fledgling career.

The Afro-soul diva's nomination for the BBC World Music Award is recognition of the singer's commitment to her art form.

Her remarkable achievement is a tribute to the true musicians' tenacity and refusal to succumb to pressure to dumb down their music in favour of the garbage that, sadly, keeps the cash tills ringing.

Dana and others of her calibre seldom enjoy decent airplay at home, where our main radio stations teem with cultrural dimwits who have an eye on the payola and little regard for talent.

Small wonder our true cultural icons remain unknown and die poor.
