Rising star Prinavin Nelson of KwaZulu-Natal, who finished top of the class at the Sunshine Tour's Vusi Ngubeni Development Strokeplay, will lead 12 young black professionals heading for the 2008 Sunshine Tour.
The players are Peter Msiza (Daveyton Golf Club), Tsietsi Chabangu (Eagle Canyon), Irvin Mosate (Schoemans Park), Reggie Adams (Durbanville Golf Club), Derick Petersen (George Golf Club), Lingum Pillay (Reading Country Club), Michael Dreyer (Roodepoort Country Club), Clifford Ndou (Soweto Country Club) and brothers George and Chris Brown from Machabeng Golf Club.
They will be playing in the European Tour co-sanctioned Joburg Open at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington courses from January 13-16.
The 22-year old Nelson will join the likes of 2007 Order of Merit winner James Kingston, Charl Schwartzel, Richard Sterne and James Kamte in this event with a R9 million purse that makes it one of the biggest in the country.
Teboho Sefatsa claimed second place after he bogeyed the 17th hole, handing victory to Nelson. The popular Glendower Country Club professional claimed sole second with a four-under 68.
Eagle Canyon Golf Club's Thabang Simon lost his share of the overnight lead with bogeys at the seventh and ninth, but still produced a credible 72 to finish in third.
"I'm delighted after a very long week," said Nelson, who missed the halfway mark at the South African Airways Open and flew straight to Johannesburg to tee-off in the qualifier.
"My confidence took a bit of a knock at Pearl Valley, but I forced myself to focus on the task at hand and just kept my eye on the big prize. Winning here means I will be exempt in most of the Sunshine Tour's tournaments, so I will really be able to concentrate on learning the ropes.
"I am very proud that I can give back to the Ernie Els Foundation for all the support and faith they have put in me the last couple of years.
"I can look forward to 2008 now."
