The Karate Organisation of South Africa (Kosa) received a major boost when Nedbank Sports Trust donated equipment to the national body in Ekurhuleni at the weekend.
The equipment include tatami (floor mats), punching bags, shin pads, body guards, gloves and weights.
Shihan Peter "Poison" Thage and Sensei Noah Bhembe were over the moon after the bank officials delivered the equipment at Spruitview Dojo.
"We highly appreciate the donation from one of the leading banks in the country and hope this initiative will go a long way in making sure that we take the level of karate to the highest level," said Thage. "This is a great challenge to other companies to follow suite towards the development of the martial arts in the country."
Bhembe said it was encouraging that a company such as Nedbank still took karate seriously.
"The bank needs a pat on the back for assisting us in terms of equipment because everybody else want to associate themselves with soccer.
"The equipment will help us to develop athletes to the international standard,'' said Noah, adding that the equipment would be distributed to Ekurhuleni, Vaal and North West karate associations early next season.
