The 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee will establish the pitch subcommittee early in the new year as part of their preparations for the tournament.

It will be one of the many sub- committees put together by the LOC to ensure that the preparations for the quadrennial tournament run without any difficulties.

"The pitch subcommittee needs to start working as soon as possible, that is the biggest issue for us in 2008," said Irvin Khoza, LOC chairman.

"It is important for us to know what type of grass we will be using for the 2010 World Cup, that is why we have to start with the process.

"The World Cup is all about the grass. When we watch on television everything looks so great because of the beauty of the green grass.

"We'll formalise the committee in January, including the issue of the personnel. One of the other things that we will discuss is the people working in overlaying.

"We are playing the World Cup in winter in South Africa, those are some of the things that we need to take into consideration. The overlaying process will also be discussed by the organising committee, it will also include things such as press centres and hospitality."

An announcement regarding the type of grass that will be used during the tournament will be made once a decision has been made.

Khoza, who is also a member of the Fifa Organising Committee, has also wished South Africans in general and soccer fanatics a happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.
