Newly elected ANC president Jacob Zuma has denied he ever said that he "wants his day in court".

Newly elected ANC president Jacob Zuma has denied he ever said that he "wants his day in court".

Briefing the media at the ANC national conference in Polokwane yesterday, Zuma said his statement was interpreted out of context.

"I was being asked in public about allegations against me, and I said: 'If I have to answer any allegations, I will do that in court'.

"I never said that I want to have my day in court," he said.

Newly elected ANC treasurer-general Mathews Phosa said it was wrong for the Scorpions to have gone public about their intentions to charge Zuma without first informing him.

"It's improper for the National Prosecuting Authority not to inform him that they want to charge him," said Phosa. - Sapa
