'Zuma will not ruin economy'

South African business and the world in general have no reason to fear that South Africa will go to the doldrums with Jacob Zuma now at the helm of the ANC.

This is the view of Zungu Investments Corporation chairman Sandile Zungu.

"I have invested a lot of money in this country as a businessman and I have confidence in the new leadership elected by the ANC delegates in Polokwane," said Zungu yesterday.

He said Zuma would not run the ANC as an individual but as part of a collective. That collective, he said, would be guided by the policies adopted at the ANC's 52nd national conference.

Zungu's assurance follows concerns raised about how Zuma's leadership would affect the country's economy.

Zungu said he was optimistic that the conference would adopt policies that were friendly to business while focused on dealing with the needs of the poor.
