Johannesburg's main public transport terminals are abuzz with people eager to head out on holiday.
Traffic is expected to peak this week as holiday-makers stream out before Christmas next week.
Metro police impounded four Zimbabwean buses in Braamfontein, the main loading point.
The terminal on the corner of Leyds and Harrison streets was crowded beyond capacity yesterday, with passengers carrying luggage and goods, ready to hit the road.
"It is chaotic here, especially at night. Most people prefer to travel throughout the night and reach their destination during daytime," said a queue marshal only known as Nyamadzawo.
Police said they would continue manning road blocks on the main highways until January.
In Gauteng two people were injured when two trucks collided yesterday morning on the N12 in Bedfordview, Ekurhuleni.
In Kwazulu-Natal a motorcyclist was killed after he collided with a truck on the Old Mtubatuba Road in Empangeni.
The man died instantly.
