Captain Zakhele Zwane is a credit to his uniform, his colleagues and the nation.

Captain Zakhele Zwane is a credit to his uniform, his colleagues and the nation.

Zwane is the investigator who put serial rapist Mongezi Jingxela behind bars.

The unassuming policeman from Krugersdorp was assigned the first case in 2001. But as ever more victims flooded in he soon realised he was hunting a monster.

He patiently built a solid case against his quarry.

Zwane's fortitude paid off when he surprised Jingxela at his home in 2004.

"How did you find me?" asked South Africa's worst serial rapist, who had passed himself off as a loving family man and concerned neighbour.

That's the question all criminals would be asking if all our cops were as diligent and effective as Zwane.
