That squint can be corrected

Mduduzi Motaung has e-mailed me asking about having a squint repaired.

Mduduzi Motaung has e-mailed me asking about having a squint repaired.

A squint is when your eyes don't look in the same direction. It is almost always possible to improve the position of incorrectly aligned eyes with an operation. The operation is performed under anaesthetic and takes between half an hour and an hour-and-a- half. During the operation the length and tension of the eye muscles are adjusted. The muscles are attached only a few millimetres from the edge of the coloured part of the eye. They are covered by the lining of the eye (like a skin) that can be lifted and the muscle tightened or loosened to move the eye. The eye is never "taken out" but is operated on where it normally sits
