The Polokwane Municipality has appointed former student leader Ndavhe Ramakuela as its director of the 2010 Fifa World Cup finals.

It confirms an article in Sowetan in October saying the popular Limpopo communications and marketing guru Ramakuela impressed during the interviews.

Simon Mokoatedi, Polo- kwane communications manager, said Ramakuela would deal with all the World Cup activities in Polokwane.

He will start his new job on January 14. Ramakuela has already resigned from the Capricorn District Municipa- lity as a communications manager, a position he held since June 2003.

He will officially leave the district municipality, which include Polokwane, Mankweng, Seshego and Mmotong wa Perekisi, on January 10.

"It is a great honour to have been appointed the Polokwane Municipality director of the 2010 Fifa World Cup," said Ramakuela yesterday.

"It is a big challenge to be part of such a big tournament which generates a lot of money. The good thing is that I will still be serving the community.

"I'm looking forward to the challenges of working in a municipality environment, though the responsibilities are new this time round."

Part of Ramakuela's responsibilities include representing Polokwane at the host cities forum chaired by Sydney Mufamadi, the minister of local government and provincial affairs.

Other duties include liaising with all the stakeholders, from soccer, constructors and business to government, and attending World Cup meetings on behalf of the city.

Ramakuela is a graduate from the University of Limpopo (Mankweng campus) where he majored in English literature.

Thabo Makunyane, Polo- kwane Municipality executive mayor, said they were delighted with the latest development in their preparations for the World Cup.
