Hitting the road with a message

The 2010 Limpopo Black Business Forum will embark on a road show in the new year to create awareness of the business opportunities related to the World Cup.

The 2010 Limpopo Black Business Forum will embark on a road show in the new year to create awareness of the business opportunities related to the World Cup.

Kedi Mabotja, the forum's chairman, said they would visit all five districts in Limpopo: Capricorn, Mopani, Sekhukhune, Vhembe and Waterberg.

Mabotja said they decided to start with the road shows after attending the 2010 preliminary draw in Durban last month.

"What we saw in Durban during the preliminary draw was simply one of the best events in the world," he said. "Some of us who were there saw creativity - Durban was at its best. I have no doubt all the soccer people from other countries were also impressed.

"It is not only in Durban. Even here in Polokwane, where there is the 52nd ANC national conference, there are many opportunities our people should have taken advantage of.

"We have seen the cities buzzing, with posters on the lamps in all the major streets. That's big business if you want to venture into the printing industry. There is also an issue of transport and accommodation.

"We all know that people did not only go to Durban for the draw, they also needed some entertainment. The same here in Polokwane. People would also like to explore towns and cities when they are in the area for business, that is where transport comes in.

"We will also use the road shows to talk to our people about guest houses and B&Bs, which will be used by Fifa for World Cup matches for the first time in 2010."

Mabotja said the road shows will start on February 20.
