A North West farmer faces prosecution after 16 minors were found working on his farm in Schweizer-Reneke, the youngest of whom was 11 years old, the labour department said yesterday.

A North West farmer faces prosecution after 16 minors were found working on his farm in Schweizer-Reneke, the youngest of whom was 11 years old, the labour department said yesterday.

Spokesman Zolisa Sigabi said the farmer would be prosecuted for contravening the law that prohibits the employment of under-aged children.

"They were made to carry 50 kilogram bags of fertiliser on their heads and also ploughed sunflower." - Sapa
