A 'jealous' Soweto woman arrested for attempted arson died in the Jabulani police holding cells on Saturday morning.

Phumzile Pule, 37 was certified dead by paramedics who were called to the station after she collapsed.

Jabulani police spokesman Inspector Kay Makhubela said the woman was arrested on Saturday in Zola, Soweto.

He said she was caught with a container of petrol and a lock near her former boyfriend's shack.

"It looks like she was going to lock the man who was with his girlfriend inside and set the shack on fire. But police pounced on her before she could do it," said Makhubela.
