A radio personality who died when the car her father had bought her as a 21st birthday gift collided with a bakkie was laid to rest at an emotional funeral in Limpopo on Saturday.

Hlekani Mabasa, known as DJ Hleks, died in the accident on the N1 highway while travelling from Johannesburg to Polokwane last week Sunday.

The funeral took place at Bungeni village near Giyani and was attended by hundreds of mourners.

Mabasa's Renault Cleo burst a tyre before colliding with a bakkie traveling in the opposite direction.

Her father, Tongeriwa, had presented her with the car on December 14 to mark her 21st birthday.

Mabasa was the host of Munghana Lonene FM's early morning show Xitimela xa ni mixo (The early morning train) from 3am to 6am from Monday to Friday.
