The coach of Mpumalanga Vodacom League side Yorkcor United, Eddie Muamba, believes the Christmas recess will allow his players to regroup and come back rejuvenated in the new year.

United, who started the league well, lost their third successive match on Saturday when they went down 1-2 to Middelburg Saints at Yorkcor Stadium.

"I can't deny that we started the season very well but things at the moment are not going the way we expected," he said.

"I can't even single out the reason for our slump despite playing well but failing to capitalise on our dominance in games ," said Muamba.

However, he added that players would not have many days off during the recess.

"We will continue training as normal and we will have perhaps only five days rest. And I'm sure when we come back in January things will change," he said.

The Vodacom League went into recess at the weekend and will resume in the second week of January.

Other results: Batau Killers 2, ELB Movers 2; Barberton City Stars 2, Secunda Stars 1; Walter Stars 0, FC Henemat 2; FC Spurs 2, FC Benfica 1; Kwazanele Manchester United 1, Aces Academy 1; Sekhukhune Masters 1, Ehlanzeni Barcelona 0.

Meanwhile, the game between Mighty Mega Force and Winners was washed out.
