A truck driver's trip to deliver 200 pallets in Mpumalanga went wrong when two armed robbers hijacked the vehicle on Wednesday morning.

Moeketsi Montsitsi, 28, was driving the white truck with registration numbers MFV847GP alongside Botleng township near Delmas when two robbers stopped him at about 8.30am.

"One of the two armed robbers was white and the other one black," said Mpumalanga police spokesman Superintendent Abie Khoabane yesterday.

"They forced the driver to lie down in the truck compartment and tied his wrists with ropes before robbing him of his cellphone as well as more than R1000 in cash."

The suspects drove a short distance with Montsitsi before dropping him off in the bushes with his hands still tied and drove away in the truck worth about R300000.

Police said Montsitsi later managed to untie himself and reported the matter to the police.

Meanwhile, a Chinese man was robbed of his red Opel Corsa bakkie while enjoying drinks at the Cocks Tavern in Waterval Boven on Wednesday.

Two armed men confronted Lin Yen Lin Liguan at about 6pm and pointed firearms at him before searching him .

"They did not find money in his possession and they took the keys to his bakkie and drove off, leaving him stranded," said Khoabane.

The bakkie is worth R42000 and its registration number is DRK956MP. No arrests were made in either incident and police have asked members of the community who might assist them to call their nearest police station.
